Hyde Farm Climate Action Network (Hyde Farm CAN) was established in July 2007. Our network currently consists of over 150 households living on the Hyde Farm Estate in Balham, South London, who want to do more to reduce their contribution to climate change.
New members are very welcome, from people who live on the Hyde Farm Estate and surrounding streets and who have an active local connection. Membership is free. Get involved
The Hyde Farm itself is a lively community consisting of 1,800 households, an estimated 4,000 residents and two primary schools. It is in the parish of St. Thomas with St. Stephen's. There are many capable people on the estate, but still many do not know quite what to do or how to do it. By working together as a community we hope to make it easier to take steps - big or small.
The area known as “Hyde Farm” consists largely of Edwardian houses & flats in Balham, South London SW12. Some of the area is also a Conservation Area. This makes it challenging to reduce carbon emissions from our homes and we are working together to find creative and cost-effect ways of living a lower-carbon life.
The network is welcoming, informal, fun and supportive. We are inspired by the ideas and activities of the Transition Towns movement and have informal links with our nearby Transition Town Brixton.
In November 2008 we became formally constituted as a neighbourhood group with a constitution, committee and bank account. The committee members are:
Adrian Audsley (Co-founder)
Nick Barnard
Carol Hughes (Treasurer)
Nicola Liu
Hugo Schonbeck
Sue Sheehan (Co-founder and Secretary)
Elizabeth Smith (Chair)
Emma Wheeler
Luke Wreford
